Taylor Sheridan’s Western Brands
For the past 10+ years, we’ve watched the slow build of Taylor Sheridan’s entertainment empire in both television and on the big screen, mainly through the fan favorite tv series we all know and love, Yellowstone. With years of experience in film and tv, both in front and behind the camera, I find it interesting that Sheridan has branched out beyond entertainment and into spaces like tourism, agriculture, and even the restaurant business.
Over the past 3 years (and probably even longer) we’ve watched our favorite Yellowstone show branch off with two prequels 1883 and 1923 that help tell the story of the Dutton family in Montana. Before that, we watched other gun-slinging, grit filled characters chase off bad guys and provide justice within their story lines in movies like Sicario and Hell or High Water. Off the big screen, Sheridan had been strategic about purchasing the legendary 6666 Ranch in and lighting a fire under the brand (pun intended) that was already well known in Texas and beyond. 6666 (pronounced Four Sixes) was and still is a working cattle ranch and horse training facility that also allows visitors to tour different areas of the sprawling property. Not familiar with the ranches history, go read about it here then continue reading on. To branch out the namesake ranch even further, they’ve naturally expanded past the cattle market and into the super market with seasonings and sauces that can be found in your local grocery store. I myself did a double take in my local Tom Thumb whilst walking up and down aisles when I spotted the 6666 logo across a variety of bottles at eye level. And if that wasn’t enough, their final hat trick in brand marketing was the introduction of the Four Sixes Steakhouse at the Wynn in Las Vegas, NV, though it is a pop-up style attraction scheduled to be around into 2025.
In case you missed it, the takeaway here is the intense planning and work that goes into the development of Taylor Sheridan’s multi-faceted western brands that he’s created over the past couple decades. The marketing and brand management that’s poured into his production studio and writing teams is a great example in showing how layered his approach is to building his entertainment empire . To not learn and study his efforts would be a miss on marketers and entrepreneurs a-like, which is why I wanted to briefly cover his ideas and executed plans here on my blog.
